One of the fondest memories of my Granddad Nelson was trading quotes regularly over email. Sadly I lost the email archive when I went on my mission, but it has continued to be an interest of mine. I hope you enjoy my collection of quotes. A bit of everything from religion to politics to leadership.
I am a Military Brat. My hometown is nowhere... my friends are everywhere. I grew up with the knowledge that home is where the heart and family are... with no dependence on the dwelling.
Mobility is my way of life. Some would wonder about my roots, yet they are as deep and strong as the mighty oak's. I sink them quickly absorbing all an area offers... hopefully giving enrichment in return. Travel has taught me to be open... shaking hands with the universe, I find brotherhood in all men.
Farewells are never easy. Yet, even in sorrow comes strength and ability to face tomorrow with anticipation... if I leave one place feeling that half my world has been left behind, I also know that the other half is still waiting to be with me.
Friendships are formed in hours and kept decades. I will never grow up with someone, but I will mature with many. Be it inevitable that paths part... there is constant hope that they will meet again.
Love of country, respect, and pride fill my being when Old Glory passes in review. As I stand to honor that flag, so also do I stand in honor of all military people, most especially those whose life created mine... my parents. Because of them, I have shared in the rich heritage of military life.
I know. And now, because you are his wife, Peter has a responsibility for you. If he truly cherishes you, which I know he does, then he will want to help you carry that burden, lighten it for you, take it away when he can. He will want to do things for you, worry about you, make things easier for you.
It takes two to make every great career: the man who is great, and the man—almost rarer—who is great enough to see greatness and say so.
'Come, Mr. Frodo!' he cried. 'I can’t carry it for you, but I can carry you and it as well. So up you get! Come on, Mr. Frodo dear! Sam will give you a ride. Just tell him where to go, and he’ll go.'
That man who rises up to condemn others, finding fault with the Church, saying that the leaders are out of the way while he himself is righteous, then know most assuredly that that man is on the high road to apostasy. And if he does not repent, he will apostatize, as surely as God lives.
-- Joseph Smith
“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door,” he used to say. “You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
I have a hundred questions, but I have no doubts
You tried to help the people of the market. You mostly failed. This is life. The longer you live, the more you fail. Failure is the mark of a life well lived. In turn, the only way to live without failure is to be of no use to anyone.
Marriage meant that you had to live with the fact that your spouse’s foibles would rub off on the kids.
A wise man once told me, the only difference between you and God is that you have forgotten you are divine.
